Surprising Facts about Hair Loss
You may had heard of hair loss but you might don't know some facts about hair loss that really surprises you.
Hair loss can happen on women, men and also on children. It can be permanent or temporary. It can fall out strand by strand and it can thin little by little over several years' time. Here are some more surprising facts about hair loss:
Medicines or services that claimed to get your hair back really work: False
More than 50% of people who are over 50 years old are experiencing some sort of hair loss. Thus there are many different kinds of products or services that claim to be able to get your hair back after a few sessions of treatment on the market and made some serious money from this. However, can they really bring your hair back? The fact is NO. “Most of the products and services that are being sold in this industry don't work,” says Spencer Kobren founder of the American Hair Loss Association and host of The Bald Truth podcast.
Hair loss comes from Mother's side: False
Heredity is the most common cause of hair loss. Both male pattern baldness and female baldness can be inherited from either your mother's or father's side of the family, though you're more likely to have it if both of your parents had hair loss.
“It's not a 100 percent accurate prediction of what's going to happen to you but if there's hair loss somewhere in your family, there's a good chance you may be dealing with it,” says Kobren.
Pull out one gray hair and you will have three growing out: False
When you notice a gray hair on the head, you might cannot resist the impulse to pull it out. Don't worry this will not cause more gray hair growing out. However, keep pulling out hairs from the same follicle can cause traction alopecia. The plucking can cause damage to the follicle so that it might no longer be able to produce hair. Rest assured that occasionally pulling won't do any bad to the hair growing.
Over treating the hair can cause hair loss: Truth
Overstyling like coloring, perming, straightening using chemicals can cause damage to the hair and make it more fragile and more likely to break and fall out. So don't mess up with your hair quite often. Give a break to the hair time from time.
If you really like some certain hairstyle, you can use a wig to achieve that goal.
Stress can cause hair loss: False
Stress always be blamed for hair loss but it is actually not the case. When people are going through high stress, it might follows with hair loss but stress is not the direct cause. There must be health issue beneath that causes the hair loss.
If you notice sudden or patchy hair loss or more than usual hair loss when combing or washing your hair, talk to your doctor. Sudden hair loss can signal an underlying medical condition that requires treatment. If needed, your doctor might also suggest treatment options for your hair loss.
